I just read that the gateways are based on geonames.org. But what happens when 2 gateways are in the exact same spot? Sometimes I see one gateway, other times I see the other one. This phenomenon is occuring in 2 places in Uppsala, Salabacke and Almtuna, Årsta and Brillinge.

Then the gateways are usually misplaced, and/or in wrong "tag" category in geonames.

I strongly recommend that everyone who wants to contribute in geonames to familiarize themselves with the tags, before adding anything. It is quite self explanatory if you just take a moment to learn how it's done.

In the past Grey Area has stated that anyone caught falsifying geonames data will get banned from the game.
