Universal Horrors - Cosmic Occurrences

In the cellar of an abandoned Victorian home in Providence, Rhode Island, a high-ranking, yet unnamed member of Animator High Command uncovers a dusty old journal. Having followed an arduous path riddled in misdirection, the once steadfast mage reluctantly opens the book, fearful its contents would be empty and the journey forfeit.
After reading only but the first entry, the Animator is stunned with awe. At last, the book has been found. Since the shadow's veil was newly torn, never has there been a discovery into magic's history such as this -
The purpose of this journal is simple, in that it's intended to serve as a record of events regarding the revival of magic since the Cataclysm. My primary focus will of course be on the spirits who now enter our world, seemingly having come from a nightmare. It's my belief that these spirits will be a key element into unlocking the many universal truths currently lost on mankind.
Given the desperation for verity among the three Academies, combined with their immutable philosophical dissonance, it seems the wisest approach will be to remain careful in my endeavor to preserve knowledge. Only the Animators have proven responsible enough to utilize the findings of this century to the benefit of the masses. It's for this reason that I first chose to join the Animators and now serve as beacon of enlightenment in what most view as darker days. May the information contained herein serve our cause well...

Well that's interesting.
Lovecraft's last paragraph, first sentance.
"Given the desperation for verity among the three Academies, combined with their immutable philosophical dissonance, it seems the wisest approach will be to remain careful in my endeavor to preserve knowledge."
Three academies? Be this a typo, or is there something new to me going on here?

It makes sense when you think about it, there was one academy, which divided into the Architects and the Animators, but perhaps the split didn't go all the way through, and perhaps this third academy exists as a subset of the two, not wishing to be divided with the rest. So they broke away from both.
Having said that, the Animators were the first Academy, if I've read the history right, and that said, it's acknowledged that there are gaps in the recorded histories, information that has been lost over time, or purposefully destroyed.
The Dark Ages probably wouldn't have been a good time for mages of either academy.
And all that said, since I joined the shadows, I've often said that the real enemies are the Spirits, not other mages.
And I'm just thinking now, it is said that Air spirits learned the Aria of Light from Human Mages, so could it be this third group alluded to in the Journal?
And if that's the case, are they working with Humans or Spirits and for what reasons?
No wonder Lovecraft hid the Journal so well, I expect there are entities that would wish it destroyed.
Could this group even be responsible for the Cataclysm, and have mages and spirits alike been pawns in someone else's game?
If a third group does reveal itself, will mages be given an opportunity to shift thier alliances?
I welcome the change if it brings Unity, but I will stand steadfast with my peers, if this change brings destruction to our realms.
I think things are going to get more complicated.
I could be wrong on any or all of it.
Should we give peace a chance while we have a chance to so so?
