Song of Arms – Harmony in Discord

As magic begins to spread rapidly in the modern era, new ideas blend with old philosophies. Feelings of animosity grow particularly strong amongst Animators who view the Architects’ handle over magic as empty and irresponsible. An inharmonious discord can be heard from the echo – a Song of Arms for any burning soul seeking beauty through destruction.
Tension between Architects and Animators grows more intense as Mages of the two Academies redouble strategic support in player vs. player hot-spots around the globe.
Beginning with the Song of Arms campaign, the teams will gain access to new Battlegroup Beacons appearing in the Cloudview menu. Especially when one side begins to fall behind in Energy, Battlegroup Beacons will be summoned to locations near gateways found in major cities and all mages within that Team will be notified via the Main View.
The ‘Song of Arms’ campaign will begin Monday June 13, 2011 at approximately 11:00 AM PDT and will run for one full week. The campaign will be split into three rounds and afterward five Mages will be randomly selected amongst the top one-hundred players with the highest number of enemy banishes and be rewarded with an official Shadow Cities iPhone skin!
EDIT: Both Teams get Battlegroup Beacons, but the losing team just gets more of them.

New ones will appear to new locations. The battlegroup beacons are much sturdier than regular beacons, but still destroyable especially as a group effort.

Orange has been trailing in points so far this campaign but we've only seen green battlegroup beacons so far. That seems to be an advantage for the team that is already in the lead. Is that how it's supposed to work?

I have the same experience from an Animator point of view! The battlegroup beacons seem a bit random in their appearance and disappearance. I haven't managed to make any damage at all to them, even though it tells differently here.
I tried to have some of my questions answered in the blog post about this campaign, but still nothing.

ok, I checked and checked and checked, but so far I never received any notification of a Battlegroup Beacon and we're losing all day... How can we find those beacons? :s

Battlegroup beacon aside, it is just plain HARD to find the enemy in the first place since the game is location based and I would bet generally played while in the same location. Even when you do happen to be out and about and find an enemy "stronghold", it is hard often hard to get back to the location later and/or coordinate an attack with others assuming the assets/enemy mage are too strong for the locating player to handle. There needs to be some way to better assist local exploration in addition to the lame and extremely time consuming leapfrog method. Maybe even special campaigns which more closely resemble "capture the flag"?

Also, with the beacon list, can you provide more information about the sorting and color coding of beacons? They appear to be sorted in ascending order by age and I think I've figured out the color coding, though a documented note about the feature would be nice confirmation. It appears that beacons created <1hr are green, >1hr but <24hrs are amber and >24hrs are dk.blue. It would be nice to have additional sorting methods such as simple alphabetic, decreasing by mage activity (most activity first) and decreasing by last visited (mos recent first).

Our home base has been target of a system beacon four times today... Then the opposing mages come pouring in, since it is very easy to find the new beacon in the beacon list. All that remains for me to do is to wait it out and rebuild everything. Frustrating and tiring.

The "high command" beacons can feel pretty demoralizing to begin with but... really... the worst that can happen is that you have a ton of contact with enemy units and your stuff gets knocked down. You can set it back up pretty easily once it is gone. You can sit and defend (i.e. knock out enemies as they warp in) and whittle away at the beacon till it is gone.
I wasted a ton of manna potions getting rid of the one close to my location last night and... I won't do that again. It would have been way more fun and profitable energy wise to just let my team know and hack and slash at our own beacon.
Bottom line is that even with the "high command" beacons we are in the lead in my area and it makes for some interesting interactions that wouldn't normally happen.
It was hard to wrap my head around at first because... it sucks having people pop into your location when you don't expect them... but really it shouldn't be that bad.
