What does "titles" do?

So I can buy either emblems or specializations in game for between 50 and 300 pots. But does these DO anything gameplay wise or are they just bragging rights?

Too bad. Should be nice to have some effects associated. Fire mages being more effective against green spirits, moon mages being more powerful after 18.00 and mind mages maybe being able to "bounce back" spells 10% of the time.
Seems that both titles and being a Shadow Lord is just a big potion hole right now? With the large investments you make there, it would be nice to see some actual effects from it.
On the other hand, that would mean that you basically could "buy power" in the game, but that's always a problem when you create a MMO where you're able to buy currency/advantages.

We are working on a number of new features simultaneously. One of them is Shadow Lord special abilites. We'll go gradually, first adding one and then another -- but in the current version, the title holder only gets bragging rights. Gateway level (Bronze, Silver, Gold) has currently some minor meanings, but we intend to make that more meaningful in future as well.

That sounds good
Also, I don't know if it's like this at present, but when someone "buys" my domain from me. I'd be nice if I got the pots I've invested back, this would encourage people to "put down" small deposits everywhere and invest in popular locations more easily.
With a system where no investment is given back upon losing a location, players might be more likely to bog down at one or two locations and keep feeding these with pots instead of spreading out.

If you have already invested on gateway you only need to pay the difference between what you've already paid and the new price plus 10 potions.

That's what I'm saying. This system encourages me to stay at one or two locations and scare away any new takers. Locations will very seldom switch hands and investing "just" 10 or 20 pots in one small location would feel like a total waste.
I want to spread my shadow lord seed all over my home town, but there's no way I can do that if all of them can be bought out and my investment effectively lost.

I would like to see the realm ownership being associated to whoever has dominated it for the longest period of time (as suggested by Manowar and Norka in the game chat) instead of buying them with mana.
The value could still be raised using mana and should have some effect in the game. This way instead of just buying off realms you actually have to hold them to yourself and your team to get the benefits.

There is actually at least one trick by which you can benefit from a good choice of an avatar. I have no intention of telling the Narcs what it is :-)
