Independence

The Animators win their first campaign victory this week!

The Independence campaign was the first campaign featuring the more fight heavy rules. Light on defense and heavy on fighting, the ruleset provided some nice battles all over the country. New tactics were discovered, things were adjusted and we received valuable feedback and criticism. We want to thank everyone for helping us to improve this game!

Next week we will continue introducing new area control mechanisms. We will see the first version of the hourly eruption mechanism and some other changes to reward holding Gateways. We look forward to hearing your ...

No surrender

We're starting to roll out first features of the area control game to end the campaign with a bang.

If you surrender a conquered Gateway to the enemy by destroying your own Dominators so that the gateway turns back to enemy color, you will lose the gained conquer points.

You will NOT lose conquer points if the Gateway turns back to white so it is a good tactic to clear the enemy Dominators out if you need to relocate your Dominators.

Hi Mages,

It's time for our first bigger community event! We will host a game night at our offices next week and invite you to join us.

The new campaign rules

The rules for the new campaign game are as follows:

  • Conquering new gateways yields points for you and your team

  • Conquering gateways from the enemy yields points for you and your team

  • If a Gateway changes hands between the teams multiple times within an hour its point value starts lowering so that the system cannot be gamed. The points return back to normal after a while.

  • Holding Gateways allow you to harvest them which will yield points.

  • You can only harvest your own Dominators.

  • You cannot harvest Dominators while warping.

  • The amount of Dominator max health that Heal spell increases ...

Shadow of Winter

The Architects win their third consecutive campaign this week! Their supply network was without a doubt the stronger one.

The Shadow of Winter was and end of an era as the game rules go. It was the last campaign where effective handling of faraway Dominator farms was the key to victory. Next week, we will have our Fight Week with new rules. Conquer points will see a boost as will defense and we will enjoy a whole new Harvest mechanism designed for fighting in mind.

This week's top players were:

  1. Lovemonger - Architects - 100 mana potions
  2. FLAMEKKi - Architects - 50 mana ...

Fight Week

This week we saw some changes to how campaign points are calculated. We introduced a new gateway conquering point system which caused some great battles around the country.

Next week we will host a fight week. Harvesting dynamics will change significantly to support keeping Dominators where the action is: You will no longer be able to harvest Dominators while warping/beaconing and you can only harvest your own Dominators. Keep those Dominators near you and conquer your neighborhood!

Conquering gateways from the enemy will offer significant returns. If the Gateway has a lord and the Gateway's value has been ...

Spirit Catcher changes

The Spirit Catchers are now changed so that you can capture up to four spirits with one catcher. Your specialization level defines how many Spirits a single catcher may catch. Level 4 catchers capture four spirits, level 3 three spirits and so on. Spirit Catcher is also now able to capture different kinds of Spirits with one catch. You will initially see only the color of the Spirits the Catcher is luring in and the Spirit houses will be revealed after the capture.

Step one in the conquering game

Satisfying your energy appetite by dominator farming in safe locations has been one of the main ways to score points. While havens for dominators will stay one of the strategies also in the future, we decided to start rolling in some changes that will bring conquering and combat more to the forefront.

Clearly battling for your familiar active neighborhoods has been one of the coolest things in Shadow Cities. We decided to reward Mages directly when conquering an Energy Gateway for your team. Based on the Gateway activity (how fiercely the gateway is fought over) and its strategic importance, the ...

The Architects took the Northstar Campaign

Congratulation mages! The Northstar has ended and the winner has been declared. The Architects triumphed over The Animators in the first weekly campaign in Shadow Cities. Congratulations!

Both sides witnessed the emergence of some amazing spell casters and Dominator harvesters. On Animator side I was particularly impressed how @Plz worked the war room. Kudos for that! Similarly one couldn't have avoided hearing the urban legends about @Jason, the Architect and his impressive Energy count. Next week we shall see whether Architects just got lucky or if there is real mad skills behind the victory.

The World Leaderboard looked like ...

What's Coming

We have been listening to you on how you feel about the game and your experiences playing it the past several days. The main point we want to get across is that Shadow Cities is not a game that ships and is then forgotten by its developers. If something rubs our players the wrong way, we work hard to make it go away.

Clearly farming Dominators has become a large part of the recipe for success in Shadow Cities. Perhaps a too large. We are currently working on a solution to gradually shift the game play from remote Dominator farms ...
