The Harvest - Lugnasadh

All action yields consequence only truly revealed by time and reflection. As magic continues its rapid spread, the effects of our combined decisions map the way. With the season of change upon us, only those willing to put their best foot forward should hope to reap the full bounty of ‘The Harvest’!

‘The Harvest’ campaign will begin Monday, August 1 at approximately 11:00 AM PDT and will run for one full week. Individual rewards will be provided to top contributors at the end of each round and total energy gains can be tracked on the leader board. During this campaign the energy gains from harvesting will be significantly increased but dominators will recharge much slower.

Shortly after the campaign, we will also be posting the names of the top 100 mages who gather the most energy from any source during “The Harvest’. Additionally, there will be a random drawing and we will reward 10 mages out of the top 100 with a stack of Academy stickers!

Along with ‘The Harvest’ campaign we are also changing it so it will no longer be possible to warp to an enemy Gateway. As always, we will continue to monitor the effects of movement in Shadow Cities and continue to iterate as needed.

".. we are also changing it so it will no longer be possible to warp to an enemy Gateway." Can you share your reasoning? Is this a permanent change?

Moving to enemy-held gateways had pretty devastating effects on the feasibility of building Dominator strongholds. It was just too easy to reach and wreck them. The current solution was suggested by players and seems to fit a harvest-centric campaign much better.

Umm… in the last campaign blog u said that u would post the top 100 shortly after the campaign ended but it still isn't there

I also want to thank all of u devs for making it the most energy gained from any source, asbi can't harvest from my area

are the distance limitations for harvesting doms lifted? it seems this works against people who live and work in different locations.

Ok... I will totally continue to enjoy this game, but right now I feel the need to rant : WHAT ABOUT US LOST IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WITH NO WAY TO HARVEST OTHER THAN TO TRAVEL TO ANOTHER COUNTRY ? The cheapest way to harvest in my case is a fly ticket to Paris... This is so unfair ! Well, my rant is over. Back to playing now :-)

Although not as unfortunate as Sakalav's situation, I live in an area where I only have two gateways in range at most, and more often just one. So now the folks in smaller, less urban areas will not have any chance or performing at their more metro-based colleagues' (or opponents) level. I guess I should've figured this by the title Shadow CITIES. I know the metro vs. rurual issue is hard for the devs to balance. And the game is a usually fun way to pass the time. I just feel bad that I can't contribute as much due to where I live; seems unfair.

Would also like to publicly note that this campaign seriously disadvantages players (like me) in rural areas. It would be nice if I could harvest my own doms within, say, a 5-10 mile radius of my physical location. Or to be able to harvest battlegroup teammates' doms (with the owner of the dom getting the energy, but me getting the experience points, perhaps). That way I feel like I could contribute more than just getting the usual "You have 1 gateway in the area, +3 whooop dee dooo!" message.

To counter that, urban areas have become no-man's land. We can't hold down a single gateway that ya'll in the rural seem to complain about so much. What use is it that I have 3 gateways within a 5 block radius of my typical login site if I can't use them. In my battlegroup (Louisiana) the top players are now at near-inaccessable regions out in rural zones, whereas I'm a block away from an enemy who can drop a beacon for their rural teammate. I wouldn't be so against free movement if defensive structures were more powerful. Kudos to GA for bringing back multi-warding, but even that's not enough.

To those complaining about not having many gateways in their area: I'm in an area that has six gateways in the entire city. One is within a reasonable distance from my home, and one is just beyond a reasonable distance from my work. I almost always manage to place in the top 30 in my battlegroup, with around 1500-2000 energy per round, and that's predominantly from spirit hunting. Basically, unless you have less than three gateways in your city, then you're exaggerating the impact this has on your ability to gather energy. So you're at a small disadvantage for one single campaign. Big deal. There are other ways to gather energy.

good point Hyac. and i want all of the people to realise that it says, "who raised the most energy FROM ANY SOURCE"

I concur with Hyac to 100%. I have roughly the same situation here in my area and managed to come in first place in our BG last round. I have to admit that I spent almost my whole weekend playing SC for that, though. But even during normal workdays I usually managed it into the top 10. And yes, this is achieved mostly by spirit hunting and not by harvesting.

my €0,02 : i have about 6 or 7 gateways in harvestable view.. though i can only use 2 to connect my doms to to prevent AHCs to spawn on top of me.. as i have about 5 other architects in my city which makes it almost impossible to gain much from harvest, so i guess that makes the problem similar to the ones with almost no gates! I used to harvest 60 of 5 doms, though with the AHCs i now harvest 22 on 5 doms on 2 gaates, which now has raised to 31 with the changed rewards on it. On top of that Hyac made the point that they states "of any source" just the harvesting helps.

In the last campaign I collected about 7000 energy, from spirits alone. Please stop complaining that there are not enough gateways to harvest in your area. There are LOTS of ways to gain energy, many of them much more effective than harvesting dominators.

I have to disagree with Hyac. If you only have three gws like I have you get a max 8 energy per dom. The disadvantage is someone with lets say 10 gws owned by your team in the area might get 22 energy per dom. yes I can hunt spirits to catch up but they can play half the time and still bring in just as much energy. On the flip side of that I do agree holding an area in a urban area is much tougher but I have noticed in some areas that after a while of getting beat down the players just change sides.

I currently control three gateways as well. And yes, I typically average eight energy per dom. And I still manage to make it into the top thirty energy gatherers for my battlegroup, thanks to spirit hunting and completing missions. In fact, right now I think I'm somewhere around 21st with about 1100 energy. In roughly 36 hours. On a side note, there is no area where one can harvest from ten gateways. At the very least, I have not seen nor heard of a single such place controlled by either team, and I've been playing since the Four Houses campaign. Any area with such a concentration of gateways is such a warzone that it's impossible to harvest anything there before the team tears it all down. And even if one did by some random late-night miracle manage to hold ten gateways long enough to harvest from them all, they'd instantly summon an ABC/AHC and be torn apart.

I'm not gonna argue with you guys, I know I can gather just as much as you IF I spend at least 4 hours a day hunting spirits and ojs and completing exciting missions like "find the green 2... no make that 3 stars dannan". My point is that you harvesters will still get the sexy mana pot rewards on leaderboard and I will become a nolife geek and I will still not be on par with you. N°1 in my bg has already collected over 4000 energy ! Just because it's a game and it's no big deal doesn't mean I can't whine a little over it, right ?

So this campaign is about harvesting, but not winnable with the "Harvest" spell? You "Harvest", you lose. You hunt, you win. The next campaign should be called "DBAWS" (Don't Believe Anything We Say). :-P

It's not so much the harvesting for folks in my semi-rural area (I didn't even know until I read this commentary that anybody got more than +3 for harvesting dominators!) But not being able to warp to enemy gateways means I can only rarely complete any mission which involves enemy dominators, wards, beacons, or banishing enemy mages. In-game communication isn't seamless yet; sometimes another mage will suggest leap-frogging from a beacon but I don't realize I've got a message until long after the useful moment has passed. Almost all the energy I harvest has to come from spirit hunting.
